A title agency handles some of the most significant transactions in a person's life. The space where that work happens should feel like it.
When Preferred Title Agency of Ann Arbor engaged Reed Walker Design Collective for the renovation of their newly acquired building, the ask was focused: interior finish selections for an entry, reception, waiting area, closing rooms, offices, kitchen, and toilet rooms. But the opportunity was bigger than a material board. It was a chance to give a trusted, community-rooted business a space that matched the weight of the work done inside it.
The design responds with a palette that is layered, considered, and quietly confident. Soft warm neutral walls throughout, grounded by deep black doors and trim that give each room a clean, composed edge. Crown molding, chair rail, and picture molding details restore a sense of permanence and craftsmanship that newer commercial builds often skip entirely.
The reception and work areas feature warm walnut-toned herringbone flooring, a pattern choice that signals intention without announcing itself. The waiting area is anchored by an inset rug in a charcoal carpet tile, with wall paneling detail that settles the space into something closer to a well-appointed living room than a waiting room. Closing rooms are finished in a softer carpet tile, creating acoustic intimacy for the conversations that matter most.
The toilet rooms are where the design earns its personality. A dramatic wallcovering anchors all four walls, paired with a black-and-white checkerboard tile floor, vertical stack bond subway wall tile, and Calacatta Gold countertops. It is unexpected, referential, and exactly right.
