FAQs

How long will the project take?

The duration of an interior design project depends on the complexity, size, scope, availability of materials, and your decision-making abilities. The design process will take a minimum of 3 months, but can take up to 12 months. Construction varies widely. A comprehensive schedule, unique to your project, will be provided in your proposal.

Do I need to hire other consultants?

It depends on the municipality and the scope of the project, but you may need to hire architects, engineers, building trades, or other specialty consultants in addition to a contractor. Collaboration is key to the success of complex real estate projects.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Our design and preservation fees vary due to the unique complexity, scope and scale of each project. Please review our services page to learn more about the packages we offer. If your needs are clear, a 15-minute Discovery Call and project intake survey can provide enough detail for us to generate a proposal for your project. If you are unsure of what you need, consider our 90-min First Look paid design consultation where we can dig into the project and discuss on the best approach.

Are you a decorator?

Nope. I am a professional, NCIDQ-certified Interior Designer and a qualified Architectural Historian. This means that in addition to the furnishings and aesthetics a decorator focuses on, I also specialize in layout, lighting, understanding building code impacts, materiality, human behavior, environmental branding, preservation planning activities (nominations, tax credits, adherence to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation), and coordination. Essentially, give me an empty box, and we will bring your vision to life.

Can I do whatever I want to the interior of my building if I want to utilize Rehabilitation Tax Credits?

While we can do a lot to modify a building for the next chapter of its life, if you plan to utilize Federal or State Historic Tax Credits, there are rules. We must follow The Secretary of the Interior's Standards or Rehabilitation, which emphasize preserving as much historic character, material, and layout as possible. Significant interior features, including certain architectural details, finishes, and overall floor plan of the building are usually maintained. New additions and alterations must be compatible, while not looking to falsify history.

WHERE DO YOU WORK?

We are based in metro Detroit, Michigan. We can work anywhere in the U.S., though depending on the regulations of your state, we may need to secure the appropriate Interior Design license or regulatory requirements. We have passed the NCIDQ, the qualifying exam used throughout the US as the benchmark for professional design services so it is often as simple as submitting the appropriate application. We also work frequently with an Architect of Record who's services can meet the regulatory requirements. Depending on the services request, travel time and expenses may be incurred.
